Faith Over Fifty
Someone born in the year 1900 was expected to live an average of 47
years. A child born today will very likely reach the age of 100. In that
short span of time, life expectancy has doubled, and the quality of life
has improved tremendously.
It's no secret - the population is aging.
There are more of us who have reached the age of 50 than ever before - and
our numbers are growing. Some of us have already retired from our jobs,
and some of us are looking forward to those days when we will be free from
the restrictions of the daily work world.
We enjoy the quiet and solitude
of our living rooms, maybe a week with the kids in a cabin in the
mountains, a few hours with the grandkids, sailing on a cruise ship on the
other side of the world, driving away in a motor home for a few months to
Florida, or standing on the cliffs and marveling at the Grand Canyon.
One thing is for certain - we are not ashamed of the blessing of having
had a few more birthdays. God is not just letting us "dream dreams", He
is letting us live them out as we serve Him in many rich and rewarding
ways.
Faith Over Fifty is a new ministry of the First Apostolic Church, under
the direction of Tom and Karen Rocklin.
Faith Over Fifty provides opportunities for adults who have reached the
age of 50 to strengthen their faith, to enjoy fellowship, to serve each
other and the church, and to reach out to the communities in which we live
and worship.
Faith Over Fifty fulfills its mission by scheduling events that combine
fun, fellowship, learning, service and worship, and by providing resources
to its members.
We are just beginning to develop our calendar, and we'd like you to join
us whenever you can. If you have already celebrated your 50th birthday,
you are always invited. Your spouse is invited too, even if he or she is
still looking forward to that milestone.
"I thank my God upon every remembrance of you." - Philippians 1:3
